The universal incentive for effort constantly appears to be food: cake and ice cream, a catered lunch for in-service training sessions, pizza for the overtime staff, bagels and cream cheese to brighten up a bleak Monday morning.
The e-mail comes out at noon. "To commemorate your effort today, there is cake and ice cream in the big kitchen area at 3 today. Exist!".
The universal reward for hard work constantly seems to be food: cake and ice cream, a catered lunch for in-service training sessions, pizza for the overtime crew, bagels and cream cheese to brighten up a bleak Monday early morning.
Since it is globally accepted, Food seems to be the perennial favorite for any kind of work incentive. Some of us (we difficult core dieters) may pass on the sweet stuff but generally find something allowable. In a world where 2 thirds of us are overweight or overweight, is there nothing else readily available as a present that crosses all individual interests?
Recently, we had an entire week at my company dedicated to worker recognition. The primary benefits were, of course, food however various other things were added: a business baseball cap, a hiking water container, a lunch bag, and a handwritten note of thanks to every worker from their supervisor. The cap was a bust for those of us with any degree of fashion sense; the insulated flask and bag were food related, and the handwritten notes were unnecessary - good managers show their recognition of effort regularly while a handwritten note from an extreme supervisor, no matter the "thanks" specified, means diddly squat to a resentful worker.
The NEEDS TO be something else, does not there? We human beings have couple of things absolutely in typical and consuming is the main universal. Various other usual bodily tasks such as peeing and defecation are not quickly translatable into some type of reward system. We are all included in physical task, to some degree, but that is typically more a duty than a delight.
When it pertains to our other senses, all of us vary so much that one person’s pleasure is another person’s pain: music, fragrance, pictures, or massages are differential tastes instead of general givens.
Cash is usually acceptable but the small quantities that would be individually produced to replace a cost-free dessert or snack would be so very little that their benefit value would be insignificant.
What can those of us on an irreversible diet, and alarmed about our colleagues’ enhanced girth, recommend?
Exactly how about plants? Little individual pots or a bigger division bush would save our waistlines while contributing to the health and esthetics of our environment. I determine, simply within my call center, that if a plant had actually been offered to each division, rather of an edible goodie, for events over the past 5 years, that I would now be working in a rich tropical rain forest of exotic plants where the stale re-processed air conditioned air would be purer, more damp, and a thousand times better. Spirits booster and wellness advantages in one fell swoop!
In our overly busy pressured lives, who would not be immensely grateful for a free hour below or there. Turn it with each division, letting one or two individuals leave early on a Friday afternoon.
Instead of a handwritten note, how about getting Supervisors to do their subordinates work duties for an hour or so, once in a while? Can you picture the morale boost for an employee to get off the telephone, or the equipment, or the computer system, and shoot the breeze with pals for an hour while their duties are performed by their supervisors?
Each individual gets one cost-free card and added cards can be provided by managers for outstanding work, guaranteeing that the better employees have more cards. And let employees use their cards for colleagues who may need them - think of the teambuilding that would achieve!
Versatility of assignments, days, and hours, is another location where workers will universally respond: not to money, or food, but to accommodation of individual requirements. Provide each staff member a wish card and then permit them to utilize it to obtain something they require.
What does all this achieve? It permits for worker benefits without carbohydrates and fats. Now isn’t that worthwhile?
P. S. I’m suggesting this to my business. I’ll let you learned if they purchase it!
